To get a true understanding of your hormonal balance and to decide upon the optimum treatment, it is necessary to measure your hormone levels in the blood.
This will be discussed with you at your initial appointment.
Blood tests will usually be required after the initial assessment and before starting hormone treatment. If you are post-menopausal you can have them measured at any time. Otherwise, you should have them taken between day 19 and 22 of your cycle. Day 1 should be taken as the first day of your period.
This will depend on your case. However, once hormone treatment is fully established you will need to have your blood tested annually to make sure the doses of your hormones are optimal.
You can arrange to have your blood tests by calling 07521 722562. We will send the blood bottles to you and help you to find somewhere to have your blood taken. Once the bloods have been taken you should use the stamped addressed envelope to send them to the lab for processing.
You can see the cost of blood tests here.
If you are taking any form or hormone therapy your blood test will need to be carried out 4-6 (ideally 5) hours after taking your medication. Therefore, please adjust the time you take your medication on the day of your appointment to suit this time frame.
The results will usually be available after 7 to 10 days. They will be uploaded onto our system, and we will contact you to let you know.
You may request a copy of your results by emailing enquiries@hormoneclinic.uk.

HRT or Hormone Replacement Therapy refers to treatment which involves taking hormones to replenish levels which have fallen in the body. This can be done by mouth, through the skin or vaginally.
Bioidentical (or body-identical) hormones, are identical in structure to the hormones produced in the human body and tend to be associated with fewer side effects. They are derived from plant sources and manufactured into a fine powder. They can be given through the skin or by mouth and come in creams, capsules or lozenges.
Historically HRT has been provided using licenced preparations readily available on the NHS in set doses, containing either oestrogen alone or in combination with synthetic progesterone-like compounds called progestogens. However, progestogens are not identical in structure to the natural progesterone produced in the body and can cause side effects.
Regulated (body identical) BHRT are licensed medications and regulated by the regulatory authorities. They can be obtained from pharmacies across the UK and are available in set doses.
Compounded BHRT are unlicensed medications are prepared by compounding pharmacies. The doses are prescribed by the doctor based upon individual requirements.
Once treatment is established, BHRT costs approximately £2 a day. However, it will cost more during the first few months while we establish the correct dose of each hormone for you as an individual.
You should start to feel better within six weeks of starting your medication although it may be sooner. You should allow 3 months to feel the full effect of the medication.
Side effects depend upon which hormone you have been prescribed. Often you will be prescribed more than one hormone depending on which ones are deficient. Side effects vary between each individual and range from no side effects at all to ones such as bleeding/spotting, breast tenderness, bloating, headaches and acne. Any side effects should settle within few weeks and any remaining should be discussed at your next consultation.
Your medication will expire 6 months after it is dispensed. The dispense and expiry date will both be stated on the dispensing and dispatch label.
You may contact the clinic here.
Any cancellation or changes to your appointment will require two working days’ notice and any cancellation with less notice will result in the full consultation fee being charged.
